Quali®-C vitamin C: collagen, skin, antioxidants and Eclo doses
In brief. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient. In the European Union, when the regulatory conditions for content are met, it may carry the claim that “vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin”. Eclo notably uses Quali®-C, a dsm-firmenich ascorbic-acid ingredient. Eclo evidence rating: strong nutritional function and regulatory claim; Quali®-C mainly adds raw-material traceability, not proof of clinical superiority over every other vitamin C.
What role does vitamin C play in collagen?
Vitamin C acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in collagen maturation. The European framework expresses this role precisely as a contribution to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin. It would be stronger — and less accurate — to infer that a supplement “increases collagen by X%” without a specific study.
What is Quali®-C?
Quali®-C is dsm-firmenich’s vitamin C brand. The manufacturer documents production of ascorbic acid in Dalry, Scotland. The value of the brand lies in traceability, specifications and manufacturing chain. The molecule is still vitamin C: the brand name itself is not evidence of greater efficacy than another vitamin C of comparable quality.
Which European claims are authorized?
When the conditions of use are met, vitamin C contributes, among other functions:
- to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin;
- to the protection of cells from oxidative stress;
- to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue;
- to the normal function of the immune system.
These are regulatory claims about the nutrient, not results from a clinical trial of the finished Eclo product.
Which doses are documented in Eclo formulas?
| Product | Vitamin C / daily dose | NRV | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Régénère™ | 12 mg | 15% | provided within SkinAx²™ |
| Ressource™ | 72 mg | 90% | Quali®-C |
| Hyaluronic Acid 200 mg | 80 mg | 100% | Quali®-C |
| Collagen 300 mg | 60 mg | 75% | Quali®-C according to the reference product composition |
The current regulatory product label remains the reference for confirming composition and NRV at the time of purchase.
NRV and efficacy: why not confuse them?
100% NRV means the daily dose provides the reference value used for nutrition labelling. It does not mean “100% effective”, a universally optimal dose or a maximum safe limit.
Vitamin C + Reggenerate™: can the evidence be added together?
No. Vitamin C has its own nutritional framework, while Reggenerate™ is an eggshell-membrane raw material with a separate manufacturer dossier. An authorized vitamin C claim and data on Reggenerate™ do not automatically create a clinical study of the combination.
Vitamin C + ExceptionHYAL® Star: the same principle
The published ExceptionHYAL® Star trial documents the hyaluronic acid studied at 200 mg/day. The vitamin C claim documents a nutritional function. Both pieces of information can coexist in a formula, but each must remain attributed to its exact source.
What we know — and what it does not allow us to conclude
- Documented: vitamin C has a physiological role in normal collagen formation.
- Regulatory: a specific claim concerning the normal function of skin is authorized under conditions.
- Traceability: Quali®-C identifies a dsm-firmenich raw material produced in Dalry.
- Do not extrapolate: Quali®-C is not proof of clinical superiority over every other vitamin C.
- Do not extrapolate: a vitamin C claim is not a study of the complete product.
Frequently asked questions
Does vitamin C “make” collagen?
It contributes to normal collagen formation. That is the most accurate regulatory wording.
Is Quali®-C a different chemical form of vitamin C?
No. It is a branded ascorbic-acid ingredient with specifications and traceability.
Does 100% NRV mean the maximum or optimal dose?
No. NRV is used for nutrition labelling.
Does combining vitamin C and collagen prove the finished product works?
No. A study of the complete product would be required to claim clinical evidence for the finished product.

Method note: an authorized nutrient claim, a raw-material dossier and a study of the finished product are three distinct levels of evidence.
